Best of Luck Student Teachers!!!

Image
ART EDUCATION I went to talk to a group of great future art teachers at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (The great University I graduated from) tonight. I want to thank all of them for allowing me to come in and talk about my first year of teaching... hope I was some help. It was crazy to think of all the stuff I have gone through the past two years to get to this HAPPY point. I wouldn't change a thing I went through, but at times it was so frustrating applying and applying only to get rejected. Student teachers, keep your heads up and BE YOURSELF. I LOVE my job, and I hope all teachers out there applying for jo bs the best of luck.  This is a side note that isn't as professional... It makes you feel really good inside when you check out a school that chose someone else after the interview process... and you check their website to find that the artwork the teacher is doing is "not so nice" (everyone's artwork looks exactly the same). I just feel

From drawing to Printing plate ... layers! Crayon Cake on colored piece of paper Black crayon rubbing on white paper with watercolor over the top... Crayon Cake rubbing on white paper... love the multiple colors! Black Crayon rubbing on white paper PRINTING PLATE: 1. Initial Alien drawing using only shapes 2. On a 11 x 11 inch white piece of tag board, the students started gluing colored pieces of tag board in the same shape and size as the drawing. 3. Build layers on top of one another. PRINTING: 1. Using white paper, rub over the top of the printing plate with back crayon (Print two... one for watercolor, and the other to keep black and white) 2. Using white paper, rub over the top of the printing plate with a crayon cake (look to see how they are made in my archives) of their choosing. 3. Using a colored piece of paper (students choice) use whatever crayon they wish to rub over the top of the printing plate. White crayons work great.

Secondary Colored Fish

Secondary Fish Students outlined their fish with blue paint first. Started with the scales... students picked a secondary color and then made different shades of that secondary color based on how much of each primary color they used to mix the color. Each scale was mixed differently. They did an awesome job! After painting, each students outlined the fish with permanent marker. BUBBLES!!! Using white and dark blue the students took a small cup and presses the rim into paint and then onto their painting... leaving a white/blue circle ring. Seaweed... the students finished their painting with the addition of seaweed. The students learned how to use their "fingers" to tear paper. I told the students to keep their thumbs and pointer fingers next to one another and tear in small increments "more control." Finished Product!!!!!! After weeks of hard work, the students finished their secondary colored fish. I started out reading the book "Rainbow Fish" since we we
